The Widford School Council are elected by their peers. The Council is made up of 2 children from year 5 and 6, 2 children from year 3 and 4, 1 child from Key Stage 1 and 1 child from EYFS. Each class votes for the children who they think can best represent their views to Mrs Cooper. Being a School Councillor involves being able to listen as well as share your ideas.
The School Council meet regularly with Mrs Cooper. The older children take the roles of Chair and Secretary in the meetings. The Council consider ideas which children have put forward in the ‘Suggestions Box’ in the Hall. They sometimes have tasks to do which involve asking for the views of their class on certain topics and reporting back at the next meeting. They also help Mrs Cooper to make decisions and ensure that the views of the children are listened to and acted upon.
The work of the School Council helps to promote the British Values of democracy, individual liberty and the rule of law at Widford School.
